This was a 1995 BBC/A&E production, six hours long and wonderful. Firth became a star walking out of the pond in front of his country cottage with a wet shirt. His awkward encounter with Jennifer Ehle is remarkable- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hasKmDr1yrATim

This is the only DVD I own and I play it 4-5 times a year. And you're right about the scene where he walks out of the pond. Yikes!
I think all the characters in this version are spot on and Jane Austen would be pleased.

I am really enjoying this season of Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith plays her part so well. I smile everytime she makes a comment.
