I get the best asparagus from Costco though it only comes in three-pound packs. What I bought recently was very good; I like the thicker stalks because they seem to me more flavorful.

The pipette-thin stalks are really nice *if* you can get them less than 2 days old. The problem with getting them from, say, Costco is that they dry out a lot faster.

We bought some asparagus at the Italian Market in Philadelphia this weekend but I suspect it's from California (they don't bother with origin labeling there).
