I very very rarely deep fry. So the frozen spf and regular are good for when the boys want fries and don't want oven fries or I don't have time to peel, chop, soak in hot water, bake. Plus teenage boys eat way more than I want to peel even when I have time.
Actually my normal way of getting fries is to call our local diner and place an order when I'm making burgers. It's 3 minutes away, they use fresh potatoes and I just time the burgers to be ready when the fries are ready to be picked up.

edit to add - and if I happen to also order onion rings at the same time....well, it's just making the trip down the street more cost effective. ;-)

Fuzzy, there is a recipe for tater tots at Food52 todayl Hand-Formed Parmesan Tater Tots. Looks good. May give it a try.

My plan is to make my girl do the peeling if she wants fries :) When she is old enough, that is.

Yeah, I think I'd have a whoooole lot of shifts in thought if I had multiple teenage boys. And maybe an extra part time job.

Never ate a tater tot....I know that for lots of people, frozen foods are a convenience and a necessity. It's just not something I use in my kitchen and I admit that if I had to cook every night for a family, I would probably become a proponent.

CC has a recipe for Crispy Potato Tots. I have never made it, but thought about it several times.....let me know if anyone would like it.

I've made the CC tots. They are pretty tasty, and you can freeze a batch for later, but they do have to be deep-fried. It's just easier to throw some frozen tots in the oven while I make burgers or whatever. Maybe next time I make CC tots, I should par-fry some and freeze them for later trials in the oven. My kid isn't even part of the equation. He hates tots.

Paul, when they have friends over it's pure insanity. These boys eat more then they weigh. I'm toying with the idea of pasturing a cow in the park behind our house, although the town may have an issue with that. ;-)
