Post subject:  Dessert suggestions for Christmas party?

I'm having a little Holiday get together and plan to serve wine, hot cider, and coffee along with desserts. I'm thinking of assorted cookies and candy on the side and two main desserts. For these, I'm considering CI's tiramisu, but can't decide on the second one. Any suggestions? Thanks

CI's Chocolate Caramel Walnut Tart. No particular reason, I just love it at the holidays.

Thanks, I have not tried CI's Chocolate Caramel Tart. Do you think it is okay to make 2 days ahead? I could also make it the day of, but not the day before. Do you think the Tiramisu is a good idea also? I'm open to suggestions.

Tiramisu is always a good idea. I've only ever made the tart the day before, but it was fine as leftovers 2 days later, so I think you're okay.

A Buche d' Noel always looks great on a holiday table. Martha S has a pretty good recipe for one.

Welcome to the board Kim!

How is being served, e.g.,sit-down or buffet, and for how many of each type, i.e., kids vs. adults?

Thanks for the warm welcome! There will be about 25 adults. I will be making Marilyn's toffee, a soft almond cookie that is rolled in sliced almonds topped with an apricot glaze. Also, chocolate mint thumbprints, buckeyes, and chocolate truffles all from Matt Lewis' Baked cookbooks, which I haven't tried. I don't know why I always seem to try new recipes on company. Maybe more if I have time and am ambitious. I'm open for suggestions. I think I want to have two main desserts, since it's a dessert party. I'm still strongly considering CI's tiramisu because I love it and is made ahead. I will definitely consider the chocolate caramel walnut tart and a buche d' noel. I have to check out Martha Stewart to see what a buche d' noel even is. See I'm already learning and having fun with all of you. Thanks and keep up the suggestions.

I would recommend a fruit-based dessert as the second, instead of two chocolate. Bûche de Noël is traditional, but can be intimidating if you're not a baker.

A pear clafouti or pear filled savarin with an amaretto sauce would be excellent.
