All,
Saveur last month, in their article on artichokes (which was a good article), gives some tips for preparing artichokes. One thing they recommended, like many recipes I've seen, is to remove the choke (the "fuzzy" part) with a spoon.
I have never been able to get the choke out with a spoon, even once. All it does is mash the choke around, even if I use a grapefruit spoon. What I have to do it halve or quarter the heart, then use a very sharp paring knife.
Does this work for anyone here?

If I'm removing the choke before cooking I use a grapefruit knife-it has a serrated blade that curves at the bottom. I've never even tried (or heard of) removing it with a spoon. BeckyH

Sadly, Greg doesn't like artichokes so I've only made them at home once. I had to use a knife to get out the choke, but I figured it was due to my inexperience. Or not?
