I would really like to know how you all feel about grass fed meat? I haven't tried any because it is not easily available where I live. My Dad pretty much only eats grass-fed meat anymore. He told me about this website earlier: http://www.texasgrassfedbeef.com/buy_meat_online.htm I am intrigued. I am wondering whether the taste is better or not as good. I am wondering if the health benefits are real and worthwhile. Does anyone have thoughts before I consider placing an order? Thank you. |

Becca I have had a lot of grassfed meat (a friend is the director of the American Grassfed Association). The taste is different, certainly leaner meat, so fat content (i.e., flavor from fat) is not there, but there is a different flavor. I cannot describe it, but I like it. If you asked me to eat a Ribeye of each, I would just say they are apples and organges and I like both. I certainly like the pholosophy of grassfed. Ilene |

We mostly eat grass-fed beef. It's what I grew up on so the flavor has never seemed strange to me. I do believe that it is healthier. It is certainly leaner, and evidence points to animals that have been raised on their natural diets having better quality fat -- more Omega-3 fatty acids, fewer Omega-6's. You need both, but you're not hurting for the Omega-6's. It is better for the environment and it takes food we can't eat (grasses) and turns it into food we can, rather than using grains, which requires more resources to grow. I've never been a big steak eater, so it has never bothered me that grass-fed steaks are trickier to prepare (I usually use the reverse-sear method for them). In stews, the stuff is divine -- giving off bigger, beefier flavors. I also like it in ground beef. |
