You're welcome! Sponge cake layers would work also, but not look as pretty.

Mary,

That's a fav in our house too (very rich, but oh so easy and impressive when you decorate it up with chocolate shavings). I play with the recipe sometimes. It's very tasty with chocolate cookies instead of the chocolate chips. It's good with different flavours of booze too instead of the kalua (chocolate cookies with raspberry liqueur is really good, esp. if you leave out the powdered espresso, add in a tad more cocoa powder, and garnish with fresh raspberries). It's also good with chocolate liqueur (either with or without the espresso) with chocolate white chocolate chip cookies and white chocolate shavings. (yes, it's been a go-to rich summer dessert for bbq parties a lot at my house).

The variations by one of the commenters look good too. I think one is with limoncello and shortbread. If not, I think that is a pretty fine idea.
