This arrived in my inbox a few weeks ago and I've been thinking about trying it when we get local berries:
http://www.italianfoodforever.com/2012/05/strawberry-basil-jam/

She has a whole whack of jam recipes here too that all look lovely http://www.italianfoodforever.com/category/recipes/canning-preserving/

And the no-cook stuff is great on ice cream (due to the sauce effect) and on fresh bread slathered with fresh ricotta.

Thanks Jean for posting this recipe...I generally just chop basil and put it in along with some lemon juice, so it's nice to see an actual recipe and love some of her other recipes.

John,

I try to make the best of my many trips...it just happens to be strawberry season on Long Island...I happen to be on LI now so...Tuesday morning I will be happily picking strawberries.

I did pick up a flat of berries in Poteet, Texas http://www.strawberryfestival.com/ in April and just sugared and froze them.

I get back to Six Shooter Junction late Tuesday, then run down to deep South TX. on Wed. get back home Sat. and go to Russia on Sunday for a week ( to work on bringing home a kitchen slave  )so I fear that I'm probably going to have to make the freezer version this time...my wife informed me that I must make two batches of Marilyn's world famous toffee to take as gifts.

Frank,

Does that mean the waiting period is at an end? I can't wait for you to be surrounded by four women.

This reminds me of the years when a local synagogue had a big sign on the lawn reading "Save Soviet Jewery!" some young smartass had added "Win valuable prizes"
Good luck on the latest addition, and the best way to keep them kitchen slaves is to force them to cook and eat good food. Oh, and calling them helpers is also useful.
