For several years, due to my former employment, I couldn't enter recipe contests, and now I've seen a few that might be fun. Just a thought -- given these economic times and every little bit helps -- would anyone else be interested in starting a topic on that subject? I know there are some websites that specialize, but I can only look at so many and this one is on my To Do list. |

At the risk of the Da Bull Man using this confession against me, let me say that I know nothing about this topic but it intrigues me greatly - count me in, but as a most rank neophyte. (Frank - don't you dare take advantage of that "rank" opportunity!) |

Lindsay I would definitely be interested....one of the perks of retirement is time to do things I enjoy, and extra cash would be a bonus ilene |

I once entered an apple cooking contest. I made a French silk apple pie. Needless to say I did not win, but it was fun anyhow. I have entered my recipes in magazine contests. My turkey pot pie was published in the Dec 2007 Taste of Home magazine and it also appears in a cookbook that just came out in January. I'd love to see this topic explored. Laurie |

That sounds like a fun topic. I'd even give a recipe a test try with feedback. eb ![]() |

Here are three to get us started: Since Laurie brought it up, Taste of Home is currently having a contest with a $25,000 prize -- enter in Classic, Light, Time Save, or Serves 2 categories, see instructions here: http://www.tasteofhome.com/Contests/Rec ... Best-Loved And for you meat guys, there's the National Beef Cookoff (also $25,000), here http://www.beefcookoff.org/ Most of the contests I've seen, though, are for much smaller amounts, For example If you're in the Boston area and want to play around with cooking with tea, my old culinary school, The tea board of India and The Boston Park Plaza are holding a contest for recipes that use tea as an ingredient (I'm mulling over adding lapsang souchong to cream biscuits made with ham bits to try to imitate the taste of Southern style ham and biscuits -- no one in the south yell, please, we can't get country ham up here). If you want any more info, let me know, and I'll send it to you. It's a $300 prize Also, if any of you want a fun read, the winner of the 1999 Pillsbury Bake Off wrote a really interesting book about it called "The Ungarnished Turth, A Woman, A Chicken dinner, A Million Dollars by Ellie Mathews. It's moderately respectful--esp. towards the Pillsbury people and her fellow contestants-- and really funny (the only one who truly does not come out well is Rosie O'Donnell who insisted on stuffing raw cookie dough in Ellie's mouth and never even discussed her recipe during a post-victory interview). P.S. Fuzzy -- I know this isn't in the right place so feel free to move the topic where you'd like -- I just wanted to see if there was any interest. |

Hi Lindsay This sounds like fun. I am also retired (early) & spend my days cooking. No experience here, but I'll help where I can. Kathy |

Maybe we should each enter a recipe for one of the contests. It might be fun to see what happens. Laurie |
