We are invited to a New Year's Eve party and I am bringing biscuits to go with a brisket (and thanks to Crystal, no worries about that recipe). I was also asked to bring some ice cream to go with brownies and I thought Kahlua. Google kindly supplied this recipe:

Any thoughts? Should I mix something into it?

I'd go straight up since it's destined to go with brownies. Looks tasty! I wish I could go to one of your parties!!! The ones I get invited to always seem to feature store bought 7 layer dip and purchased spiral sandwiches.

Chopped chocolate toffee bars are great mixed into coffee ice cream, and they also go well with brownies. Coffee Heath Bar Crunch (later named Coffee Toffee Crunch), used to be my favorite Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor.

Sounds fantastic! I'd let the custard flavors marry a bit longer than the 2 hours the recipe specifies, but I am sure it will be great.

Thanks! I thought about using Daim bars (a chocolate covered toffee bar, not sure if they are in the U s). My other thought was to just put some chocolate covered coffee beans on top of it. Steve, I thought the same thing. I would probably make the custard the night before. Carey, indeed you would like one of our parties. I am sure up you would fit right in. I always feel a little sad when I go to a party featuring store bought stuff.

let us not forget the $2.99 shrimp ring  (having said that even my friends that are not cooks are very welcoming and provide lots of nice wine)

Mary, the fellow that is cooking with Chris Kimball for the year had an interesting take on coffee icecream. He made a fudge sauce, spread the icecream in a cookie sheet, froze, then spread the coooled sauce on the icecream and rolled it all up into a log and sliced.

Here's another thought...coffee ice cream, topped with creme de cacao and toffee bits. It's a great combination.

Oh what great ideas! I like the roll idea, did he freeze it on parchment paper? I would do the crime d c idea with store bought ice cream as we can get really good coffee ice cream here (do you know Mövenpick?) and that is a good, fast solution.

In fairness to your friends, the quality and variety of ready made food is much better in the U.S. than here. And I am terribly spoiled.

Mary - here's the link to what he did. http://myyearwithchris.wordpress.com/20 ... ice-cream/
I think he left a step out between 9 and 10 and would think he used the saran to help roll it up. Parchment might be better.
Good luck! (love Movenpick btw, we are lucky in TO and have a couple of restaurant locations)

edit to add - I can't read. He does use parchment. The saran is on top.

That seems like it is doable. I saw another recipe that calls for reducing the espresso instead of using instant or beans, I may try that as well.

Boston has a great Mövenpick too. They actually closed a bunch of their Swiss restaurants, I think they just kept the roadside cafeteria style ones and canned the sit down ones. They also have a bunch of resorts that are supposed to be very good.

PS that guy is very wordy, I had to read it a couple times to find the parchment. He could use an editor.
