So, I went with the 8" cake and filled them about 2/3 full. The recipe calls for 30 minutes and it took about 35 to be done. The cakes were fairly tall, so I cut a generous bit from the top of one for the bottom layer. What I really liked best about using the 8" instead of the 9" is that I could use an older cake plate I've had for years that would never work with the 9". I'm anxious now to try the 6"
