Bay City has a new cupcake shop. Actually their products are baked in their Midland store and then shipped to Bay City. I was surprised to see the price of an individual cupcake at $2.50 and $24.00 for a dozen. Is this the going price in larger metro areas?

At Magnolia Bakery here in NYC the price for a dozen cupcakes ranges from $42 - $48 depending on the flavors.

$2.50/cupcake is extremely reasonable.

Well, here you can go to a supermarket and get them for probably under $1. Or you can go to a speciality shop and pay $7. And pretty much anything in between. However, I will say the quality difference between the bottom end supermarket one and the speciality shop is striking. I don't know if it is "worth it", but I don't bother buying the cheap ones but sometimes buy the expensive ones.

I bought 2 dozen cupcakes to take to a party and almost choked when they told me the price was $84....they were good, but Ina's coconut cupcakes are better. I just didn't have time to bake.

Apparently cupcakes in the Bay Area are relatively cheap, at $2.50 to $3 per, for gourmet ones. My favorite are "minis" which are just one bite of cupcake, usually for $1. These let you get the taste of cupcake without worrying about the calories ... or have several flavors!

The good ones here are $2.50 to $3.50. I'm with Paul; the grocery store ones are less expensive but they are nasty. There's one place I really like called Cocoa & Fig; they also sell French macarons for $1.50 each.

Hey Fuzzy, Do you have Kara's cupcakes in SF? They sell little ones that I get all the time. I especially like their java and vanilla ones, despite being a rabid chocoholic. Nancy

Nancy,
Yes, my sweetie is extremely fond of them. You can even get them at SFO (Terminal 2).
