I bought one of these CHIPS and I have to say that it makes awesome Potato Chips in the Microwave and they are Fat Free. What is unusual is the chips come out perfectly flat. I don't dry off my potatoes after I slice them, so I think the moisture keeps them really flat until they are cooked enough so that they can't curl. I also like that I can control the salt. Just a few grains of Kosher salt on each chip is more than enough. The mandoline that comes with the trays slices the potatoes to just the right thickness. I have only tried White Potatoes so far. This set from Target does not include the mandoline.

But....but.... the fat is one of the best parts! You need something to carry the salt and fat, and the chip is it!

Does it work if you coat the potato in some fat? I've tried this at home, on paper towel, and not been happy with the results. I'm no microwave guru, so it could be me

I suppose you could brush oil on the slices. I will try one this weekend.

The effectiveness of this probably depends partly on your microwave.

Actually, I think the silicone rubber trays have a lot to do with the even cooking. I also have this chip maker from about 10 years ago and whenever I used it, some of the chips would be burnt and some hardly cooked at all.

I have an evil mad scientist (from that website) on my basement door (the workshop) at home I've built a couple of his clock kits, and bought random parts from him!

I've not done that test, but my microwave definitely is not very even. I keep threatening to get a new one (though the door, which you have to yank very hard to open, always displacing the microwave in its precarious position on top of the fridge, is the actual core reason).

Let me know how it works with added fat!

The picture attachement isn't working properly; I'll try to debug it later.

Here is a picture of the chips. The one in the lower left had some vegetable oil brushed on both sides. It looks about the same and I didn't notice any difference in the texture or the taste, so I'm thinking that I didn't put enough on it to make a noticeable difference.

They are definitely much more even then i've gotten without the device in my microwave.

I just tried a Gala Apple. I wasn't paying attention and I overcooked the slices. I'm also thinking a Gala has too high of a Sugar Content. I will try it again with a Granny Smith next time.
