The ammonia helped release the seriously baked-on crud on the bottom of the pot. I just sprayed it with oven cleaner, and I think that will likely go a long way to cleaning this puppy. I'll let you know!

FWIW, Amy, when you get older, meno and age make you forgetful, so I got a little kitchen digital timer (several actually, they're like glasses, I never know where they are) that has a clip. Even if I'm not timing something specifically, I start it, and clip it to my shirt, so when it goes off, I know to go check. I use it as an alert; otherwise......well, you know.

KSS,
I'm not that old!
I have plenty of timers, and probably should have used one yesterday, but I was über focused on my new toy. I'm usually really good about keeping track of things like this (you have to be when you work in a professional kitchen), so this was an anomaly for me.

Then you'd have to remember why the timer is beeping...

Well, I tried all the tricks, and none of them seemed to work for my poor pot.
BUT, drumroll please...
The pot is looking as good as new! Andy took his DeWalt drill and attached his fancy, dancy steel wool brush, and voila! A shiny and clean pot!

Yay! Glad to hear it. I should have thought of that - DH used the same trick on our brick fireplace to get off the stubborn old paint. The paint is gone but now the brick is all black from the steel. As it turns out, he can use the same tool with sandpaper to take the black off, but the mess is unbelievable. I made him quit and told him to wait until spring when I can open the windows.

Quote: DeWalt drill and attached his fancy, dancy steel wool brush Embarrassed to report that many years ago, I burned Mama's cast iron DO, and I mean burned it with baked beans. Honey took it to work and sandblasted it. Came out great. Guys have a different thought about how to tidy things up....

Great news Amy. Now I can concentrate all my concern on Crystal's pregnancy.
