The BlueStar has 22K, and open burners. That's a big part of the appeal to me.

Edited to add: The "piece of crap" range is now sitting in pieces in the kitchen. Andy found some info online about diagnosing which electronic control may have failed, and is testing each board. He had the foresight to pull out our camp stove, so at least I've got two (10K each) burners. Coffee and anything that doesn't require a sear or deep fry is now possible.

Amy wrote: Andy and I talked about the BlueStar tonight. He completely gets my desire for this kind of range. He asked, "if we moved, would we take it with us?" Really sensible question, to which my reply was, "of course." He then asked if selling the home without a range mattered. Good question, do you think so?
We could also keep the current "piece of crap"/repair it and hold it, but I don't think that's wise. I'd rather just recycle the pieces. Thoughts?
Amy When we sold our last house, the realtor said the more appliances you leave, the quicker the house will move. If you were to move I'd just replace the Blue Star with an inexpensive used or scratch-n-dent stove so you don't leave a gaping hole. We left all our kitchen appliances and I think it helped. It matters more on the lower end, of course, because people buying a starter home (which ours was) don't usually have a big budget for appliances. I'm not sure it matters that much on higher end homes.

There are a number of homes in the multi-million dollar range which have all the bells and whistles. So, the service industry is very strong. Darcie, hear ya...I could put in a $1K stove that looked good in order to sell. Amy

Open burners sounds good. Closed burners tend to heat up the edges of a pan even at lower BTUs.

As some of you know from FB, Andy's car got into a wreck last week as he tried to rescue me from the scariest driving situation I've ever encountered. (It was blizzard conditions as I attempted to go over the pass in the pitch black...I couldn't see a f***ing thing and had to stop dead in the middle of the highway and just put my hazards on. Andy tried to come to get me, only to end up in a ditch coming down the mesa. We thought his car was okay at first, but alas it was a total loss.)
Today we got him a new vehicle, and it ended up costing a few thousand less than anticipated. When we got home, he said, "order the range."
Happy dance!
