Very good point, Linda. I have all of my frequently used dishes, glasses, smaller sized mixing bowls, and liquid measuring cups in the cabinets right next to the DW, so I don't even take a step to put them away! And many of my storage containers there, as well - large ones in the floor cabinet, and the smaller ones in a drawer, next to it. This is about 80% of what's in the DW most of the time.

What is this 'big kitchen" thing you speak of?
I also have dishes are near the dishwasher, pots and pans near the stove, baking stuff near the oven, containers near the fridge and stuff I use once in a while up in the closet I need a step stool to reach.

Well, I wouldn't say "settled in" exactly. So far we've unpacked the kitchen and the bed. Everything else is a work in progress. Among other things, we don't have nearly enough furniture for the new house; not only did we come from a smaller apartment, but we decided to leave behind some of our cheaper/battered pieces of furniture and replace. So, yesterday included a recon trip to Ikea, Fred Meyer and Costco.

Missed this question earlier: yes, there's a Susan behind the corner cabinet. We've put the bowls, measuring cups, and bigger tupperware in there.

I ended up putting round things in mine, e,g. cake pans, bowl with Cuisinart blades, etc. I put my pizza stone, peel and big tray on the sides.

Ye gods and little fishes! I mean, I knew I had a lot of cookware, but ... let's just say that, large as that kitchen is, if I had a second one the cabinets would be full. Every drawer is full, every cabinet is full, the susan is full, and I'm glad that we kept the spice rack from the old kitchen because I had to install it in the new one since there was noplace else for our spices. Plus 3 boxes of infrequently-used cookware (specialty bakeware, etc.) are going into the laundry room storage.

I'll post pics later. In the meantime ... does anyone know where I could get drawer dividers which are 8 7/8"? Everything seems to be longer/wider.

When we bought our place I still lived at home and Chris had been living with 2 other guys in an apartment with hand me down everythings. We had almost nothing other than, oddly enough, a dining room set I'd bought at auction in a mistaken moment. 23 years later.....let's just say we are never moving. Ever.
All you really need anyway is the kitchen stuff and a place to rest your head at the end of the day.

Yeah. We have a narrow, very deep drawer which is perfect for our tableware ... provided that we put it in sideways. This requires having a series of 8 3/4" drawer dividers, and the shortest ones I can find anywhere premade are 9". I suspect I'm going to need to design/build my own.

The laundry room is like 9' x 14', so it's where our storage shelving is going to go. The garage is going to be my studio (probably).

At this point, a kitchen and a bed is pretty much what we have. Half our clothing is still in boxes. More than half the rooms in the house are stacked with boxes and essentially unusable.

10 years ago we moved from Portland here. It was, I believe, the rainiest May in history. It poured rain for at least two weeks prior to the move.
Not only that, but we had w-a-y more stuff than I could have imagined.
We filled up the moving van and still had stuff left over (gave lots away).
It poured all the way from Portland to the tri cities.
If I ever had any second thoughts about moving, they were gone by then.
Moving in was way less taxing than moving out, I guess because things by then were completely organized.
I never want to move again.
