Well, I got my Magimix yesterday, and took it for a spin. I'm in love. This thing is not only powerful, but does such a great job of getting almost all of your food through the slicing and grating disks. That's always been a pet peeve for me with other food processors. It just wastes food, which is why I was more inclined to hand grate rather than use the FP.
Highly recommend next time you're in the market for a new FP.

Amy, my wife said thank you very much for your kind offer on the tutoring if we end up in your area. So will you try to do doughs with your machine? I am going to spring for the older CI rated Kitchen Aid unless I run across a magimix on craiglist that happens to be near a friend who can buy it and pick it up. Or do you think getting a used old Cuisinart would be better for doughs and emulsifying meat? I think the magimix or robo-coupe will have wait until we are back in the US and can scour craigslist for a good deal.

Steve,
I may try some doughs. God knows this thing has a lot more HP than my KA mixer. It's definitely worth experimenting.
How much is the older CI rated KA? I got my Magimix for $280, which I consider to be an extremely good deal considering its power.

I've done doughs in my 14 cup Cuisinart without any issues, mostly french bread and croissants. I have also used to get cooked meat and raw ham ready for croquettes. Makes it easy, because I can make the Cuban cracker crumbs first if I need to, then chop the onions for the bechamel, and then add the meats to make into a paste. Only one cleaning.

Amy, the older KA food processor is half that at $140 with shipping in the USA. I would go for the Magimix without question if we weren't going back to the States in in 2014. The KA food processor will either go into storage, be given to her parents, or be sold. Once we are settled in the USA we will start acquiring better gear for use there and to accompany us back to the Philippines when I our American sojourn is over. It is really nice to have the right gear, happy to yours is performing so well.
Cubangirl, nice and I'd go for an old style Cusiniart except I'd have to get it used. My wife is uncertain why we need one (except for my meat processing), but I told her "trust me, you may like it."

The next time I even mention KA, please shoot me.
The 6 qt. mixer I got last year to replace the KA that fried itself?...It F***ING just broke. It turns just fine unless you happen to have something like, oh say DOUGH in the bowl. And, I'm not talking a heavy multi grain dough, but dinner rolls. The minute the dough hook hits the dough, it sputters and chokes and will not go unless pushed, and then simply stalls again half way around the bowl.
Also, it's been doing something since I got it, but assumed it was some sort of safety mechanism. Sometimes when I turn it on absolutely nothing happens. I have to shut it off completely, then try again.
Did I simply get a defective unit out-of-the-box?
I want a Hobart.

That sounds like what happened with mine the first gime I used it! Fortunately, they sent me a replacement sooner than I had the defective one ready to ship back, and I haven't had a problem in 7 years, and I have made a LOT of heavy, sticky batches of dough in it. It only stalled one time, when I made several batches of CC cookie dough, but it started up again when it cooled off.
Is it still under warantee (I'm hoping) ? And if it is just past the warantee, sometimes you can coax companies these days by telling them you will begin posting on facenook and twitter about your terrible experience with their product. They don't like hearing (rather, seeing) things like that, these days.

Dave,
Thanks for your input. It's not in warranty, but I'll certainly be calling them Monday morning about this. As the title of this thread implies, I've had way too many KA appliances implode. And, I'm not really all that hard on them despite the amount of cooking/baking I do.

I just spoke with KA customer service. They started to tell me my beater/bowl adjustment was off. I explained I'm highly familiar with what that should be, and it was fine. They continued to try and "sell" me that the product was fine.
Finally, I convinced them I had a faulty unit. They are sending me a new one.
I PRAY this thing doesn't die on me.

Glad to hear that you got somewhere with them! Hopefully, the new one will be like my replacement.
