Post subject:  Le Creuset rim is rusting

Rust is on both the rim of the pot and the lid, the 2 areas that aren't enamel coated. Just discovered this when I took it out to make BIR Goulash. I haven't done any research yet or called LC. Thought I would start here to see if anyone has experienced this and can assist with a fix.
TIA!

I would call LC....they are really good and since they have a lifetime warranty, they may replace it for you if they can't tell you how to salvage it.

According to this pdf, and my own experience, you can just clean it off and continue. Make sure everything is super dry before storing. I often leave the lid off for a while just to make sure it dries. I hear some people will put a little oil on the edge, though I haven't tried it.

Thank you both. The pdf has great info and yes, Ilene, I considered calling and now I definitely will. Just wanted to make sure I was thinking in the right direction. Always nice to have support!

Nancy,

You can also use Naval Jelly (readily available at many hardware stores) to remove the rust, then clean it (very well with soap, Naval Jelly is poisonous) and it should be good to go for a while. I've derusted several pots and pans that way.
