All, We have a 30-year-old KitchenAid "portable" dishwasher. It's having some "issues" at this point, but I'm inclined to get a pro in to fix it rather than replacing it. From what I've seen, old dishwashers are better than new ones. Any experience/opinions/rude noises? |

It depends on what kind of issues, I suppose. The fix could be $50 or $500. Could you describe the problem(s)? FWIW, my experience is that new dishwashers are exceedingly superior to old ones. I had an old one when we moved in to our house in WV and we practically had to wash the dishes before we put them in. There was only one spray arm, it used a lot of water, took a long time and was very noisy. When we replaced it with a new Maytag, the difference was amazing. You could put dishes with egg that sat out overnight into it without rinsing and they came out sparkly clean. We have a portable DW too, and I got a Maytag similar to what we had in WV. It's very good but, like all portables, a bit noisy. I think this is one appliance where the bottom end is about worthless and you have to go up to the middle-high to get decent product. What we have is the nicest portable I've seen (most of those are very low end). It cost about $550. |

I, and all consumer literature, agree with Darcie. When you repair an old item you are repairing an OLD item - everything else is waiting to break. Be kind to you and those you love - UPGRADE! To save $50-$100 though you can buy a new one that is in the 'scratch & dent' area. |

I have to agree that the new dishwashers (and other appliances as well) work better than the old ones. What they do not do is last as long. All the electronics and computer stuff (not the beta versions, mind you) that make them work more effectively are also touchier. This is also one of the sticking points of my marriage. My husband would have it repaired and I would get a new one. Next time around I am marrying Wino. Mary |

I too have a 30 year old KitchenAid DW...it does a fair job and the damned thing just will not die!!  When it does it will get replaced with a Miele...if'n I can afford it...
