All, Lately I've been making a bunch of recipes which involve hollowing out and stuffing vegetables, including squash, eggplants, tomatoes and cucumbers. I'm going to buy a melon-baller for myself, but I was wondering, are there other tools which work well for hollowing out vegetables? Like, what about long skinny ones? Tomatoes? |

I use the melon baller for melons, apple, and pears. I use a table spoon for cukes and zukes. |

I have two old grapefruit spoons. Remember them? They work wonders with almost everything, epecially soft things like tomatoes. fitzie |

I mostly use a melon baller (thinner, and therefore "sharper") than a spoon. I like the idea of a grapefruit spoon. May have to find one of those. Amy |

If you can get an old grapefruit spoon they are better imho. The new ones seem to be less sharp....probably due to some lawsuit! I used a paring sized tomato knife today to remove seeds from a cucumber, it's not ideal but it worked. |

Wouldn't be without grapefruit spoons even when it's not citrus season. They nest next to my stainless all year long. Great for seeding misc veggies/fruits and for scraping italian ice. |

Yeah, I have a grapefruit spoon. However, it has a sharp point, which is difficult if I'm trying to hollow something out and NOT go through the bottom. |
