Okay people, I would appreciate some quick advice if you stop by this thread. My dad requested ceramic knives for his Christmas present yesterday. I am excited because he is very hard to shop for mainly because he is a bit of a minimalist who buys quality goods when he really needs them. Knives I can do. The problem is I do not have any experience with ceramic knives, and I would really like to overnight them via Amazon Prime. He is is town for Thanksgiving and we are trying to exchange our gifts Thursday. I found this Kyocera set. I believe I have heard good things about this brand. What do you all think? I have the 7". Don't use it much but I can attest that its good quality. Ming Tsai uses them which is how I was introduced to these knives. Nancy |

Becca, Kyocera is the best-known brand. I don't think you could go wrong with them. If you can afford it, their higher-priced Damascus line is supposed to be more resistant to chipping or breaking. Do not attempt to buy a sharpener for them; instead, get your dad a gift receipt so that he can have them sharpened by Kyocera. Do, however, get knife guards for them, which will help protect them from chipping or breaking. The above is from some googling around. I don't actually own one. |

Hi Becca, I have a few Kyocera from SLT. I really like them and they haven't chipped yet (2 yrs old). SLT often has a special chef and paring set for 10 dollars off. Maybe they are doing that again now. Good luck |
