So, the new stove is a consistent 40F low. We'll call the vendor on Tuesday, of course, but right now I'm wondering if any of you ever calibrated your own gas stove, and if so, how you did it? |

I've done the oven, but not the stove. |

JB, Sorry, I meant the oven. One doesn't, AFAIK, calibrate the stovetop. How did you do it? |

Is it just a rotary knob for oven temperature? If you pull the knob off see if there's a screw in a arc-shaped slot behind the knob - by loosening the screw you rotate the oven control rheostat to the left or right so its temperature reading matches the oven temp. |

My oven is calibratable (yeah, pretty sure that ain't a word). What I mean is that it is meant to be calibrated by the user without calling in a pro. I just put my CI recommended Taylor thermometer in it, let it go for half an hour, then followed the directions in the manual. |

Yup, I've recalibrated my oven, need 25 degrees more temp. Following the instructions from the manual (Sears Kenmore 1999), hold the Bake button and then you can adjust temps up or down. When you hit the desired temp just press clear. It was pretty simple and has lasted. |

Pete, Thanks. Hmmmm ... my rheostat is a different design. And the manual has zero information on calibration. "Call a professional" it says. Time to schedule an appointment ... |

I decided to google this and the first hit I see is a recent post....by Fuzzy. lol. I've never tried, but am now inspired to read my stove manual. The only time I've ever done that was when my toddler set the temperature to Celcius and I could not figure out how to change it back. |

I just pop the front panels off of mine, and there is a very small screw with some calibrations around it, with a + and a - on either side. Fortunately, I haven't had to calibrate the small oven, but the larger one needed it after I replaced the glow coil after about 20 years. I just had to turn that screw a very small amount with a precision screwdriver. One thing that can be calibrated on the stovetop is the level of the pilot lights (again, some very small screws for this). If too low, the lighting of the flame blows them out, and if too high, it won't light. |
