Our OXO Good Grips salad spinner -- the one recommended by CI back in 2000 -- is wearing out. Unsurprising; it's 10 years old. It has some chips out of it, jams periodically, and the little "stop" button no longer works. So, when we were near a BBB,BBB&B recently we figured we would buy a new one.

The new OXO salad spinner is half the depth, and has half the capacity of the old one. For some reason, OXO decided that what cooks want is smaller salad spinners.

I don't want a smaller salad spinner; the old one is just barely big enough for a bunch of kale or a head of lettuce, and anything smaller would force me into twice as many batches. So, where can I now get a good salad spinner with the same large capacity as the old OXO ones?

Quite a few on ebay including new OXO. Amazon has OXO, too.

Fuzzy, I have the "old" Oxo salad spinner and have used it for many years.
However, recently I discovered that the Don Aslett microfiber towels work like a charm! I simply roll rinsed romaine leaves loosely like a jellyroll and gently shake...very absorbent. I have designated several of these for kitchen use only. After use I just hang towel to dry on my laundry rack in my utility room. After a few uses they are machine washed and dried in a dryer without fabric softener. I much prefer this method.

Looks like there are "large" and "small" models now. Amazon tells me that the "large" I bought in 2003 is still available:

The clear lid is a new thing, though.

the new lid is a better design, imo. and yes, large and small sizes. Weird that BBB didn't have both sizes.

Josh, as others have said Amazon has the large and the small (also called the herb spinner). I originally got the Zylizz large one because it was bigger (and it was red) than the OXO and then got the small (herb) OXO. Love both. My daughter has the large OXO. I noticed that I can get a lot more into my Zyliss and dry larger amounts faster. For just the 2 of us, the smaller OXO works fine. They were both the same price, though now the large is five dollars more.

I agree with Alina, I think you may have been looking at the herb spinner. I have one (about half the size of the regular salad spinner) from the days I lived by myself in an apartment without lots of space. It's like a mini me of the regular size.

I bought a large one with a SS bowl to replace my aging plastic one. I really don't care for plastic, and the SS bowl is lovely.

Someone uploaded home photos on Amazon comparing the old one with the new one. The stainless does look nice but it's pricey at almost $50 vs. $30 for plastic. Had I over-thought my salad spinner purchase like I do most things, I might have ended up with the stainless even though it was a few more bucks. It's purdy!

No, I was looking at the large one -- the one everyone linked to. It's 40% smaller than the large one OXO made back in 2000.

Ivy, that comparison shows it nicely. It's not very much wider, like maybe 1". Certainly not enough to make up for the loss of height.
