| Post subject: | Jelly Jar Lids |
Does anyone have a suggestion to where I can buy jelly jar lids? I have tried all the usual places, and they sell jar packs, or regular lids but not jelly jar lids. I don't really want to buy more jars and recycle the ones I have but my googlefu is failing me. Thanks, --Lisa |

Do you mean the plastic snap-on kind? or the the plastic screw-on type? |

I can get lids, or lids and rings all over here, even in a local hardware store. And you can't find them anywhere? Maybe you'll have to get them online - Amazon has one source with regular size for $2.25/dozen w/no shipping. |

Pretty much any place that sells the jars will also sell packs of the lids. On the other hand, their presence in many stores is very small right now, since most folks aren't canning much in March. |

Lisa, are you saying that regular mason jar lids don't work because they are slightly off size? I have several glass jars that have volume measures on them, but none of my regular lids work. The glass seems thicker than that of other jars. I did a very thorough search and have not found any. So for now, I've found that the tops from TJ's almond butter jars (which are not as nice) work, so I can use them for things that don't require the sealing ring. Or use wax as they did in the olden days.

I did a very thorough search and have not found any. There are some Vlasic pickle varieties that come in what looks like a Mason jar but isn't (non-standard lid size). On the other hand, Classico pasta sauce jars are real Atlas mason jars with standard lids. Normal size jars from grocery stores are 24 ounces and warehouse club jars are small mouth quart jars. The form factor is sort of square compared to a regular jar but they are very durable.

I would guess my jars were either preserves or peanut butter since I don't buy pasta sauces. We do buy fruit preserves and jams (hope to learn how to can some this summer) and DH used to buy peanut butter (now he eats mostly raw almond butter). We don't buy a lot of pickles either. I did buy a hue glass jar of pickles which I plan to use to store 5 lbs. of flour. It has been sitting in the pantry waiting to be emptied but I hate the thought of throwing all those pickles away, but we don't care for that kind. I tried to measure my odd jars and see if lids from the site that Nancy posted work, I can't tell by the sizes posted. My jars are wide mouth, but slightly smaller than the screw Bell lids. The screw part is slightly larger than the top so i can't get an accurate measure. Any suggestions would be welcome. BTW, I bought a wonderful wide mouth heavy glass jar with a nice screw lid from Big lots for $4.00 dollars. Just filled with 5 lbs. of Ap flour. |

Regular mason jar lids don't work - they are much too big. I have no problem finding regular lids. Neither CanningSupply.com or KitchenKrafts.com (thanks, Ilene) nor Amazon nor Ace Hardware carry jelly jar lids. These are the lids I am looking for (without buying more jars). Thanks, all. --Lisa |
