I want a different pastry cutter. Would you recommend, please? |

I just have a fairly cheap double wheel model like this: clickety. I have never tried any fancy ones so I'd be interested to hear if something is better than this. (Of course, I fantasize about buying one of these although I really wouldn't make good use of it.) |

Darcie, I fantasize about one of those as well. Used one when I worked at the Biltmore, and they're great. But, I interpreted wino to be asking about these. I haven't used in years. I still own one, but it lives in "rarely used kitchen tools" drawer. Amy |

Oh...yeah, those. My mistake. I've yet to see one of those type of pastry cutters that could last. I've broken two or three, both the wire type and the blade type. Now I just use the food processor. |

Coincidentally, I just ordered a new pastry blender yesterday - I need a new one and I also needed to bring my KAF order up to $60 to get $3 shipping. It's http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/items/dough/pastry-blender Don't make the mistake of getting one with the wire cutters, they don't work very well at all, the ones with blades are ever so much more efficient. |

I have the Oxo blade one and it works pretty well. However, I seldom get it out. If I don't use the food processor, I use my fingers. I was taught to do it with two forks, but find my fingers work better. I wash my hands in really cold water and dry them without rubbing so they stay as cold as possible. |

Wino, Back at the bakery, we had pretty simple pastry cutters, they were just bigger, about the size of a pizza wheel (i.e. just buy a pizza wheel). I've always considered the little double ones to be unusably small. I also cut a lot of pastry using my bench scraper. |
