I'm squarely in the camp of craftsmanship being just as important as functionality. (And Wino's right -- there was no rudeness there, Paul.) There's just something about LC pieces that feel so solid and well made (but not nearly as heavy as Staub, which is a deal breaker for me as far as their stuff). Not to mention the way they're all individually cast, etc. And Bill, fwiw, if you find yourself near an LC outlet on your travels south of the border, you can get great deals on both first and second quality stuff. I've never paid close to full price for a LC piece (although I don't have a huge collection -- just 2 sizes of round large dutch ovens and a smaller narrow oval one, plus a giant roaster I got years ago.)
However somehow this thread (and my long work hours of late) enabled me just yesterday to buy the large braiser that I'd been eyeing on eBay for a while that was just relisted at a lower price. It'll be like a new baby arriving when the UPS man shows up with it. And I can blame it all on David Lebovitz
