With my back injury this summer, I realized that the kitchen was making my back worse ... because the counters were much too low. However, they counters are a good height for my sweetie, so I needed a higher counter I could swap out. So I took a large piece of laminated alderwood I'd been planning to use for a butcher block, and cut it into a big rectangle, and then added legs. And, as they say in France, "voy-lah!": Attachment: IMG_20170820_191847.jpg This actually works pretty well, and doubles as a breadmaking board. So ... what things have you done to make your kitchen more ergonomic? |

I use a thick cutting board (though not *that* thick) and it definitely helped some tasks. When I spend a lot of time in there, I use a floor mat, which definitely helps; in that vein, I use it less now that I have some kitchen crocs (the ones designed for kitchen use), which have nice cushioning and a good heel for me. For certain things I actually work lower then the counter, like whisking. |

I do the opposite. I am 5" and the counters are fine if I am not doing too much for too long, but if I there for any length or need any real leverage it starts to bother me and I move to the dining room table. I knead bread dough, roll pasta and do any significant amount of chopping there. I may have one prep area made shorter (or movable) if we ever get the kitchen redone. --Lisa |

Lisa, 5 inches? That makes you shorter than Tom Thumb! Do you work in microelectronics? ![]() Seriously, what about getting some exercise steps or something and putting them in front if the counter? |
