Post subject:  oxo food scale

I'm going to get a food scale (finally) but the highly recommended Oxo food scale seems to have a lot of naysayers as well as fans on Amazon. Most are differences in weight from minute to minute, and the gobbling of batteries. Anyone have experience with this scale or any others? :?: (I hate stuff that doesn't work.)

I have a flat Salter scale. I use it all the time and think I have changed the batteries once in the past 5 years. I also like that it does metric and lbs. (Imperial???). It takes up almost no room. Zeros well. The weight doesn't shift around. It weighs in increments of 5 grams (I am too tired to do the math here) which is fine for me.

We have the Soehlne with a high, round platform that CI recommended a couple of reviews ago.

It's very sensitive (resolution of 1 or 2 grams) and precise but it takes up some cabinet space.

Previously we had this Salter

Which was fine (a little less sensitive than the Soehlne - maybe 1/4 ounce or about 7 grams) but it died unexpectedly.

I have one of the flat Salters too ... the aluminum one.

The first one we got had an electrical issue so that it drained the battery after 2 days. We returned it to Surly Tab, and the new one has been working for around 3 years without problems. This time of year, we use it as a postal scale.

I have the Soehlne (the round one in pic) and I love it. I have had it for about 2 years and never replaced the batteries. I am very happy with it.

I have the Oxo and am very happy with it although I don't use it all that often anymore. Mainly because I've taken a step back in preparing recipes that would require its use. But I have no complaints and in the 2+ yrs I've had it haven't changed the batteries either.
