I am interested in buying an Ice Cream Machine. Any recommendations? Thanks!

In 2010 CI recommended these very highly:
1. Whynter SNÖ Professional Ice Cream Maker, IC-2L, $220
2. Cuisinart Automatic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker ICE-20, $50

I have the cuisinart (actually have 2!) and love it. bit of a pain to keep the insert in the freezer but we deal with it. If you can get to the costco in Hawaii they might have it there. Boston's costco last year had it with an extra bowl for a steal of a price.

Hi,

Cuisinart now has a new machine. Wellborn Senora's is selling the older machine with two 1 1/2 quart bowls for $50 or $60. For an extra $10 or $20 you get their new machine with a single 3 quart bowl and shiny stainless exterior. I have not seen the machines and don't know if the new machine has a thicker bowl.

I was gifted one of the Cuisinart machine with a compressor. Other than the 40 pound weight, it is really easy to use.

I have a Phillips and it has a disk instead of a bowl so it takes up much less room in the freezer. A friend has one too and she bought an extra disk so she can make 2 batches of ice cream. I am not so industrious.

I have the Cuisinart and a spare bowl. It works pretty well, but my old fashioned Rival, to which you must add ice and rock salt, churns out a slightly superior product. Not nearly as convenient. Both are kinda loud.

Thanks everyone....I'll go with the Cuisinart since the price is reasonable....and I'll check to see if Costco is selling them....I also pan to order David Lebovitz' book, "The Perfect Scoop"...any recipes you would recommend?...or books? Thanks!

Hey Lu,
Also check Bed bath and Beyond. With a coupon you might get a better price. Btw, I love David Lebovitz' ice cream book.
