Do you guys wash yours? I've just realized that my favs of the last 8 years have never been laundered, this is from somebody who has a very very clean kitchen and replaces kitchen towels 2-3 times a day. I think I'm just gonna throw them out.

It just seems like they are.....exempt from cleaning somehow. Is this just me?

I do wash mine. Handwash. PIA but I LOVE my gloves. They're 17" long (cover my elbows) and I've searched 5 years to find the perfect heat resistant gloves.

Lynn,

My hotpads are all machine-washable. And I do, every couple months ... despite being a cleanliness reprobate in other respects compared to the rest of you.

Buy cheap white ones (like I did) and you see how fast they get dirty, which helps in inspiration to clean them.

Toss 'em in with your whites on the hot cycle and a little Oxyclean and you're then set to dirty 'em up again.

Gently simmered for about 30 min. yields a good soup base and clean holders  !

Nancy,
Where did you finally find your gloves? I have some potholders that I love, but I can't seem to find a decent heat resistant glove.

I found them upstairs at Zabar's (in NYC), of all places. And believe me, I've been searching all over, including restaurant supply stores, hardware stores, you name it. But my criteria also was not to pay $$$ for them. These were $6.95 each. I really love them and they fit well. Some were just too big for my hands.

Ours do get laundered on occasion, we also use side towels a lot. My wife did buy new ones, gloves, but I can't get them on.

All,

I've never liked hot-mitts or gloves. It takes too long to get them on and off.

Now, when I was a baker, we had asbestos hot pads. Those were effective.

I like to wash mine before I'm peeling off a crust of baked on goo. I know that the hot pads at the bakeries I worked at were all much more effective after this layer had developed, but it got sticky when you left the pad on the oven shelf by mistake and it all went pear-shaped from there.
