All members who joined on or after April 1, 2009 have been banned.
None seem to have a real name, web-sites checked on were odd or had nothing to do with cooking (lots of software, some porn, fake watches and the like).
I did check those few who had posted other than out and out spam or porn and the subject matter had nothing to do with cooking.
If I got you in error, I appologise and invite you to re-register.
I am going to suggest to Fuzzy that he switch to a more stringent registration process if such exists in this software. I'll even offer to help admin if it is a burden.

NTSC,
Thanks for taking care of this.
When I first set up the board, I was using Captchas, but they are very annoying and the spammers seem to be able to defeat them anyway. I can see if PHPBB offers any other types of anti-spammer tools. In general, I've been seeing only 2-3 spammers a week, and it seems to be a fairly light burden for me to delete them as opposed to making it harder for real people to register.
Up to now, I've been deleting anyone who has 0 posts and has their profile linked to a web page which isn't obviously a food site or blog.

Is it possible to remove them from the 'Members' list as well? I still see all of them there.

My mornings are getting so lonely without new 'members' to blast... Looks like the dam is holding - WELL DONE, Mr. Fuzzy

Wino,
Right, I was going to delete the rest. I got an answer on the phpBB forums on how to do this.
One caution is that there are a handful (2 or 3) real people who subscribed to the board and have yet to post. I know one of them from eGullet does read it, so I don't want to kick those off.

I believe you can safely ban permanently or delete all of the ones I selected as I searched each of them before acting. Please note that I only banned some for two weeks, so you need to act on them within the next week or so.
