Fuzzy: I just installed this mod in a board I'm setting up for my car club. Easy to do but it requires FTP access to implement. http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/links-o ... w-windows/ This makes links in forum posts open a new browser window. phpBB changed its behavior from V2.X to V3.0 but I prefer the old behavior since I can get back to the post simply by closing the new window ("Back" doesn't always work depending on the behavior of the target website). What do you think? |

Pete, I'd rather not. Right now, users can choose to open posts in a new window (or a new tab) if they want to, and not if they don't. If we add that mod, we take that choice away. This is especially important to me because sometimes I read the board on my Very Small Computer-Phone, which is very unhappy about opening new windows. How about I write up a HOWTO instead? |

Notably with Firefox, you can configure a mouse button to open a link in a new tab. Typically I assign the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) to open in a new tab. In Chrome this is the default behavior (might be in Firefox too, it seems to change from time to time). I can (and often do) scan through a page clicking on all things of interest and then flip through the tabs. Chrome is nice because the tabs open adjacent to the source tab. |
