I am heading to a fund raiser at a local upscale Mexican restaurant...interesting menu and drink pairings. I won't make it through the Tequilla, but cannot wait to try the food. ilene

(Shrimp filled with Oaxaca cheese and jalapeno, wrapped in smoked bacon) Salad: Dried cranberries, green apples, candied pecan and blue cheese crumbles on field greens with cranberry vinaigrette Entree (Choice of One): Filet Pasilla (8 oz filet filled with pasilla sauce, grilled asparagus an potatoes confit); OR Sauteed Seabass Oscar (with jalapeno beurre blank, grilled asparagus and potatoes confit) Dessert: Dia y Noche Flan. (Homemade chocolate cake topped with a traditional Mexican custard and drizzled with caveat sauce)
The Beverages (paired with each course)... Platinum Pomegranate: Sauza Hornitos Blanco mixed with Sauza Hornitos Reposado and Grand Marnier Texas Martini: Spicy martini made with Sauza Hornitos Reposado and Grand Marnier Old 43: Coffee blended with Sauza Hornitos Anejo, Licor 43 and Kahula

Well, it was delicious with the shrimp and the seabass being the highlights. (sorry I didn't take photos). The shrimp stuffed and then wrapped in bacon had a tomatillo salsa sauce that was a great counterpoint to the salty sweetness of the shrimp and bacon. The seabass had a beautiful crust on it and when you broke through, it was perfectly cooked. They blew it on the asparagus....maybe too long under a heat lamp....limp and mushy. Way too much tequila on the table, but my favorite was a tequila dirty martini....tequila, olive juice, olive and jalepano; I will have to try to concoct that one. They did a nice job, considering the ticket price was only $49. ilene
