We had an article in our local paper this week about Zebra Mussles they were discovered in Lake cadillac. And probably in lake Michell as well. The lakes are connected by a channel. The DNR was trying to decide how to controll them. These 2 lakes are our livelihood in the summer months. We are big tourist town. Hopefully they will find a solution.

Laurie, KSS:
I think mass harvetsing is the answer. They are, after all, edible.

A few years back, we had a real invasion of "Frankenfish". In one pond/lake in MD (between Baltimore and DC), they found something like 6 adults and about 1000 young fish! On occassion, the fish were found on land(!), kind of wiggling around several feet/yards from the shore. Supposedly they can survive for at least several hours like this! Some kind of toxin was introduced to control them for awhile.
