So a friend gave me some salmon he had smoked this summer. I've kept it refrigerated, but brought it on a trip and it inadvertently was left out of refrigeration about 24 hours. To eat or not to eat? Thanks for your help.

I don't know, cookie. 24 hours is a long time. Did you give it a sniff? If it smells OK I might chance it, but I'm sort of reckless that way.

Where was it during it's non-refrigerated rest? Unless it was someplace very warm, I'd say go with the sniff test and taste a small amount along with a chaser of cold vodka!!

It was in a suitcase in carry-on on an airplane, then stayed in the suitcase overnight. I didn't even realize my husband had put it in there and he had wrapped it in a Pier One bag. So I thought it was something of his, and just left it there......

If its vac sealed and in a cool place, it should be ok....no air has gotten in and the smoking is a method of preserving meat and fish. Give it the smell test and like Lynn siad, have a vodka chaser just in case. ilene

That's what my friend, the salmon-smoker said. I am serving it on Saturday. If I don't post again after that, you'll know not to do this yourself!
