Post subject:  need advice on new recipe software
Posted this on the old BB while this was down but initially intended to post this question here as I do really trust your sage advice.

I have an old, old version of MasterCook (1997?) with over 500+ recipes already entered. Problem is, it's holding me hostage from upgrading my computer to either a new PC or even MAC because I fear losing all my recipes. Am hoping that some of you can assist with a fix. Sierra sold MC to Valusoft several years ago and VS has a less than stellar reputation.

So, couple of questions.
Do you know if I upgrade to MC 8.0/9.0 will I be able to transfer my old MC recipes? Site doesn't say.

Is MC 8 or 9 compatible with Windows 7 or 10 (again, website omits that info, only says ME and XP).

I watched the demo for "Cook'N Software" and yes its pricey ($80) but it's gotten some great reviews. Have any of you used that Software? And if so, can I import or copy recipes from MC?

If I do get a MAC, can I copy my MC recipes into a new MAC recipe program?

And finally, can I import old MC recipes into Living Cookbook?

Would also love to hear any other suggestions/comments.

Thanks all. Obviously I haven't done a lot of investigating on my own re: LC and MAC software so apologies for asking you first. I just thought I'd check to see if anyone had any experiences to share before I do start to investigate and get overwhelmed by "truth vs hype".

You know Nancy, I read all that a couple times but all I got out of it was:

Yes get a Mac and a computer hunk.

I also have MacGourmet and their website says:

MacGourmet easily imports recipes in MasterCook, MasterCook Mac, and Meal-Master formats, in addition to the many other formats listed below. This gives you instant access to thousands of recipes on the web.

Nancy,

I generally find it's the pale, skinny, pimply types you want helping you with your computer. The hunk is more likely to accidentally delete your files.

Ok, back on topic.

I might have had an aha moment, I hope. I bought an external hard drive a few months ago and just backed everything up. Is there hope that I can run the old programs from the XHD to a newer operating system?

Any thoughts? As you can probably tell, I'm desperately trying to find a fix so I can keep what I'm so accustomed to, 12 years of working with the same software. What can I say, I'm an old dog hoping that I don't have to learn a new trick :oops:
