Be still my beating heart! I'm totally whelmed with the very thought. This might get me to reconsider my membership.... |

I'd consider it if she's making Kwanzaa cake. |

Ya' know folks, I hate to be the one to keep standing up for her, but...OK, great cook she ain't, but
rich successful famous mated with a powerful man she found a need an filled it Isn't that (at least some of it) the American dream? She's from a poor hard scrabble background. She does alright. And as I understand it, food isn't really her thing, anyway. She wanted to be Martha Stewart, but Martha got there first. But I will give her this. DD and some of her friends have gotten interested in cooking and have begun eating things that don't involve the microwave or a microphone. So, it's a start. And if I was to go see her, it would likely be at a fundraiser (at the $100 level). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

All, I don't have anything against Sandra Lee in particular. She's an actress, and she's playing a role. Mind you, I have the same amount of respect for her that I have for any bit-part actress who does a decent but unspectacular performance. I certainly don't regard her as a cook, because she isn't. I can't even blame the Food Network because they're just following their ratings. The simple truth is that the Americans who would prefer watching a hottie make ersatz Southern food out of trashy ingredients outnumber those who actually want to watch cooking 10 to 1. Sandra Lee is just the endpoint of a trajectory which went: Mario Batali --> Emeril --> Rachel Ray --> Sandra Lee. I guess I can blame the FN a little for being unwilling to pay real chefs reasonable compensation, but mostly they're delivering what viewers want. And what viewers want is Cooking Porn. Just ask Tony Bourdain; he did two episodes about it on No Reservations, and the resemblance between FN programming an low-budget porn films is striking. It's likely not a coincidence that quite a few new no-name porn shoots and pay-per-view webcams are set in kitchens (take my word for it). However, Tony has something to say about Sandra Lee: Quote: SANDRA LEE: Pure evil. This frightening Hell Spawn of Kathie Lee and Betty Crocker seems on a mission to kill her fans, one meal at a time. She Must Be Stopped. Her death-dealing can-opening ways will cut a swath of destruction through the world if not contained. I would likely be arrested if I suggested on television that any children watching should promptly go to a wooded area with a gun and harm themselves. What’s the difference between that and Sandra suggesting we fill our mouths with Ritz Crackers, jam a can of Cheez Wiz in after and press hard? None that I can see. This is simply irresponsible programming. Its only possible use might be as a psychological warfare strategy against the resurgent Taliban–or dangerous insurgent groups. A large-racked blonde repeatedly urging Afghans and angry Iraqis to stuff themseles with fatty, processed American foods might be just the weapon we need to win the war on terror.

OK - you all win! She's the spawn of Kathie Lee Satan --- whatever. Let's change the subject to a REAL Food Network star: Guy Fieri....now we're talkin' talent, looks, personality and cookin' ability. (I haven't actually thrown up watching him, but I might....probably the next time he sticks one of the bedazzled fingers in his mouth to lick them. Eeeeeewwww.) |

Check the "Food Network Humor" blog. She has a good sense of humor, for the most part, and takes shots at most of the FN celebs. I find it mindless entertainment. Nance |

I would like to take his backward-on-his-head sunglasses and use them to choke the living shit out of him. Not that I have a violent streak or anything... Also, I second the Food Network Humor blog. Often quite amusing and snarky. |
