Not gonna miss any of them. Animal fats rock. Edited to add: Too bad all of those industries will just switch to palm oil. |

JB, Well, at least palm oil isn't proven to be bad for you. And does that mean I'll be able to get Brazillian palm oil without special-ordering it for $25 a bottle? |

Won't miss any of it.....stopped eating anything containing it ( that I could tell) years ago. I'm sure some of it slipped through the cracks, but I've been pretty vigilant. |

Me too. I have not seen trans fat on the labels of the stuff I buy in a long time. Then again, I've always hated margarine. You reminded me I have some fat in the freezer for schmaltz. I should get busy. |

Don't forget - there has been crisco out there with 0 trans fats for years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but instead of "partially hydrogenated" it is "fullly hydrogenated". Is this what we will be seeing as a replacement, and how can it really be that much better? I don't remember the last time I bought shortening or margarine, but it had to be back in the 70's, when I was getting into cooking. It didn't take me long to learn that butter and other animal fats rule, when it comes to baking! I buy very little in the way of prepared foods that have trans fats, save the occasional bag of tortilla chips, to go with the guac. So this will affect me little. |

All, If you read some of the articles on this, it turns out that food manufacturers have been allowed by the FDA to lie about the trans fats in their products for years. A lot of things labelled "0 trans fats" do, in fact, have trans fats in them; the FDA allows product owners to report "0" for up to 0.5 grams trans fat per serving. Since the AHA's recommended maximum dose is 2 grams a day, 0.5 grams is actually a pretty significant amount. The "0 trans fat" Crisco, for example, is actually about 7% trans fats by weight. |

Fuzzy, Shows how much I even look at this stuff! The "green crisco" which was all hydrogenated, softened with some liquid oil, has been off the market for several years. That was more expensive, thus never became popular, despite only having a trace of trans fat. Now they just play those games with serving sizes so small that they have under .5g. Simply put, partially hydrogenated oil in the ingredients means trans fat. |

I believe the FDA also allows you to omit naturally occurring transfats such as occurs in meat. These tend to be pretty low but still misleads you on your transfats intake. |
