PC users seem to like Living Cookbook but what about MAC users, is it still MAC Gourmet? I'm making the switch from a PC platform to Apple and so far I am loving my choice. TIA. |

You might check out Paprika -- it works on all platforms (unless you're a weirdo running a Linux machine), and it comes highly recommended. I'll be putting it on my iPad soon and if it is as good as its hype, I may get it for my PC as well. |

I really like Paprika over all. I especially like that I have it at work and at home, and can research what ingredients I need before I go home.... (though eat your books is great for that too) (Note I've never used it on Windows) |

Just my two cents worth - if you use any recipe software you can lose all your recipes if they no longer exist or the company stops supporting it - that happened to me. I keep all my recipes on Word documents and in a Cookbook file in Dropbox. |

Losing the ability to use Living Cookbook would be a deal-breaker for me; the biggest reason I have not made the switch to MAC. And I'm impatiently awaiting the ability to use LC on my IPAD! That would be a killer deal. |

Ah, but I refuse to have Word on any of my machines (including work ones, hey, I have a unique work environment). Paprika, on the Mac, can export to HTML at least, which would then require lots of farting around to make it usable, but it is "something". Sub-optimal, I'll admit. |

Thanks for these thoughtful responses. So glad I asked. Paprika looks great, reasonably priced and works across iPhone, iPad and Mac. I am a little concerned about its ability to handle (seamlessly) PDFs though. I tend to "grab" more recipes from borrowed or my own cookbooks than from the web. Sometimes I'll even take pictures of recipes (instant shopping list!) There's mention of a Google PDF to text translator so that recipes can be imported. Paprika users - any experience with this? Lindsay, excellent point about losing data from a company going under. I've worked for companies whose software has disappeared because they did! I've been managing my recipes in a similar way as you, on Dropbox and on a backup drive but I am thirsting for more functionality. Evernote is another possibility but I am still researching its features above and beyond DropBox. Linda, I regret not moving to LC when I bought my new PC years ago. People seem to love that software. From what I observed the LC developers move slowly and cautiously so I hold little hope for a iOS platform anytime soon. |

For Paprika, I've done manual imports from web pages, and direct input, but never from a PDF or other source. I don't think they are angled towards that, they are very web focused. |

Paul, good to know. Still from what I can tell it's superior to Mac Gourmet. I think I'll give it a try. BTW, Evernote Food is no longer an option as they will discontinue support on 9/30/15 & won’t be making any further updates to the app. |
