If you live in a northern state, a four sided box, open on floor and north side, up against the basement wall may remain at 55 year round. Mine hits low 60s so it didn't work for me.

Got all that except the basement. It's so wet here, that most older houses don't have basements. The McMansions people have put up in recent years have basements. They flood.
