Yikes! Guy Fieri. I would freak a bit too. Stimulus overload with his appearance and loud voice. Not to fond of him. Nancy

My trauma at the moment is the fact that there is no good ethnic shopping that I know of anywhere near where I'm living for now. What good is a town where there is only one brand of coconut milk or oyster sauce? Where are the banana flowers that I still can't figure out how to prepare? The myriad mysterious roots and tubers? Instead I trudge through American mediocre, with a poor selection and horrible prices. Doing any real shopping here must require inside knowledge that I lack.

All,
When they introduced talking coupon dispensers, it cemented my resolve to avoid supermarkets, ever. Thankfully, we have a well-stocked local independent greengrocer (Haight Street Market) 2 blocks away. And he's affordable (at least, by SF standards). Mind you, with such a small store, I do get blocked in the aisle. Doesn't take much, just a guy with a baby carrier.
Interestingly, the talking coupon dispensers disappeared out of SF supermarkets sometime in the last couple years. Seems like, at least here, people spoke up about not liking them.
Becky,
Where are you living now?

I don't think I've ever seen a coupon dispenser, let alone a talking one. Well, ok, we will occasionally have like a pad of coupons that you can tear one off (like a pad of paper). Is that a dispenser?

Paul, I've seen the auto ones at Shopper's sometimes, they spit a coupon out when they detect movement. Don't ever remember one talking to me though. then again I'm usually too busy mumbling to myself to notice.

Nope - these things either have a flashing light or a voice recording and when you walk past, the coupon spits out at you, with or without commentary. They had them when I lived in WV and the floor and shelves were littered with unused coupons. Annoying, wasteful, frightening, you name it. I am thankful they aren't in the stores here. @Tiffany - my concealed carry permit for WV is not valid here (but I believe it is in Florida!). I will get one for MN this spring. Coupon dispensers, beware!

I block out most of the annoying stuff and am pretty much in a zen state in the grocery store (exception: Trader Joe's - it's downright claustrophobic in there!). Grocery shopping is generally one of the highlights of my week (is that sad?). I take my time, compare prices, read labels, squeeze produce, and try to put together meals in my head. I am probably someone who would be blocking you, KSS! Although I try not to do that, honest. I'm with Darcie. I love to shop. Reading labels and comparing prices...nah. But to me going to the grocery store is like a brand new experience every day. Dun'no why. It feels.......safe? ...lou

I like putting the groceries away. Especially if I remembered to clean the fridge before I want shopping.
