You almost got me started . . . Asimov of the NYT wrote recently of this, amongst others. With warm wines and high alcohol wines (14% +) drop in a small ice cube and compare it to an unadulterated sample, probably you will be more pleased with the dilution. I'm just sayin' . . . Yeah, I know, I should start a thread or a blog or somethin' I'll pull another cork tonight and dwell on it - as the first real snow of the season begins this evenin' Might take 2 corks

Sounds like a wine cooler to me. Can you say Bartles and James?

Cooled wines? Gosh, does this mean I shouldn't leave the box in the trunk for all that long??

wino wrote: See! Now you've gone and hurt my feelings. As for boxed wines, a trunk is exactly where they belong I dunno, sometimes you just need somethin' to drink. So I will drink boxed wine, especially if it's free (like at the office holiday party). But more recently I've taken to drinking beer because someone in the office who helps plan the parties must like beer, there are always several craft beers to be had. I have a wine fridge so I keep all my wine in it, reds and whites, since I never have more than the 24 bottles it will hold. For reds I let the wine come to the temp I like (60-65 degrees, or just slightly below room temp. In the winter here in MN, of course that IS room temp LOL.) Unfortunately money has been tight this year so the wine fridge is nearly empty. There are few things more sad than 2 bottles of wine in a 24-bottle fridge (OK there are a lot things more sad, but it is kinda pathetic-looking).

... whereas I have 30 bottles of wine in my pantry, which will be around 6" of broken glass if we get a 5.5 or above in San Francisco.
Blame Tobin James.
I can't think of a worse thing to do with good red wine than put an ice cube in it. Why not add some fruit and call it sangria?

My wine fridge only holds 8 and it's half empty, too. I think there's 2 dessert wines, a red someone gave us, and a $3 chuck awaiting it's turn to season some stew.

Well, I'm guessin' you don't want to see or hear about my 2 cellars - one for drinking now and the other for some time far in the future (one shelf is labelled 2025+)! My buddy's has 2 folding chairs and a small table with corkscrew and glasses, plus piped in music.

It can be nice to have relatives who like wine-I've never liked as much wine as I do at my brother's place, where he has a moderate cellar, in which he also cures salamis and prosciutto. He became an Italian wine snob after spending most of a year teaching outside Florence. (he also derides the concept of multi-grain or whole wheat pastas, but I laugh at him about that)
