Here's where my roast came from, maybe it is pictured as a wee one here at the farm! http://www.purecountrypork.com/pg/pg_thumbnails.html I can't stand the idea of mass produced pork and what those pigs go through to deliver food to our tables. This seems like a good producer and they are not far away. It seems that good pork producers are harder to find than the other kinds of meats, at least here in north Idaho. I have a fantastic lamb source, good beef people, and chickens I am not as fussy about. |

Eating locally is a huge movement in this area. We're lucky to live in ranch country, but also have an amazing variety of fruit and vegetables from about two hours north of here. (Colorado has a large number of micro climates.) I belong to a CSA that makes delivery of all this abundance directly to my front door. My favorite local source for pork is Kinikin Heights. Amy |

I've bought my pork the last two years (1/2 last, full this) from Ashton Glenn. I will say it is a bit weird visiting the pigs. They are quite friendly and curious. Kinda makes me sad to have them killed. Still, they taste good. Another farm raises tamworths, I might give them a swing next year if they have flexible butchering and offer cryropac |

A few of our local restaurants serve beef from Double RL ranch (for Ralph and Ricky Lauren) which is 16K acres just down the mesa from me. It's seriously good grass-fed beef (God knows he has the money to do the ranch right). I wish they sold it retail...sigh. And this is the view over the ranch I'm "forced" to look at every day as I drive to work.  Amy |

Nancy, As you know, winter in the city and winter in the mountains are vastly different. (And, I've lived in both, so I speak from experience.) When you're expecting two feet of snow in Manhattan you say, "oh, shit." When you're expecting two feet of snow in the mountains you gleefully exclaim, "powder day!!!!" We can get three feet of snow here, and businesses don't miss a beat. We're just geared to handle it. Amy |
