I live in a pig, lamb and beef playground, but for the life of me, I cannot get veal here in Telluride...or Montrose, or Grand Junction. I think I'm resigned to mail order on this one...I don't want to spend a fortune, can someone recommend a reasonably priced veal source? (I know, I know...this is asking a lot...)

Amy, this isn't of use right now, but it may be in the future. http://shop.cowsoutside.com/I've no idea if the price is right, but we do like their bread and cheese.

I know Bobolink...I used to buy stuff from them all the time at the Suffern Farmer's Market. I hadn't thought of them for mail order, but you're right...they would be a good resource. They're not inexpensive, but not bad either. I used to get rabbit from them really cheaply.

I ran into them at the Farmer's Market at Lincoln Center and we went to the farm once. I've no idea if this place does mail order, http://www.hendricksfarmsanddairy.com/ or not, but their salumarist runs a blog here http://ahungerartist.bobdelgrosso.com/I've been to that store as well and they do great sauage and cheese.

That farm's not too far from where the granddaughters live although we haven't yet made the detour. Del Grosso's pretty active on Ruhlman's blog which is how I discovered his blog and the farm. Is there a regulatory advantage to not selling/shipping interstate? Around here we have PA-inspected and federally-inspected butchers and we can't get offal (even skin on the pork belly) from the federally-inspected one we've used for the lambs and pigs. Or so we're told.

You can get skin on pork bellies and fresh ham's from Dietrich's. http://www.dietrichsmeats.comI've two hams and four bellies in the freezer. I start on one ham right after Xmas.

Hi Amy, What parts are you looking for? And, you are talking frozen, right - or is that unacceptable? I am in the local meat shop once or twice a week. He has it there, I can inquire if he can send it and if it is already frozen, what he has, etc. His prices are really reasonable.
Good to see you again. Ski safe!

Lynn,
I'm looking for all kinds really...veal breast for making sausages, scallopine, chops, etc. I just need a reliable source that isn't going to break my bank.
Amy
P.S. ntsc, aka char...I love Dietrich's...I think I'm the one that turned you onto it!

P.S. ntsc, aka char...I love Dietrich's...I think I'm the one that turned you onto it! No, we were driving back from my wife's college reunion in Ohio when we saw this billboard and decided to stop. We spent a lot of time looking at that meat counter, but we had limited cooler space in the car. Now we go out at least twice yearly with the trunk filled with coolers and ice. I found Dietrich's before I found the CI board. Well I didn't find the CI board, I posted a food related comment on an author's BB and BeckyH told me to get over to CI.

I just lost my post.
I am looking for veal breasts for stock. I used to be able to find it or order it. No such luck now. I talked to my market butcher & he can get it, but only if I want the whole calf.
Do Dietrick's sell veal breasts? Do you have any source in NYC that has it? We will be there this coming Sun & Mon 12/20 & 21.
Any help would be appreciated. K
