Folks,
I don't shop online for food items much, mostly because I live in San Francisco and most things I can find locally. However, I've had issues finding two things lately: ground roasted chicory root, and Cretan barley rusks. Since both of those are fairly non-perishable, I thought I'd see if I could buy them online.
Well, I certainly can, but there's some issues:
- Shipping usually costs more than the item itself (e.g. rusks: $5.99, shipping: $10), and is per item, so there's no way to save by ordering more.
- Many sites won't even tell you how much the shipping is until you "register" and thus sign up for 3 years of spam from them.
- And then this ridiculously expensive shipping takes 2 weeks.
Overall, shopping online for anything I can't get at Penzey's seems like a bust.
