Jean, we LOVE bread stuffing with onion, sage & celery. My sister-in-law was always making stuffing with cranberries, sausage, walnuts, oysters, whatever she could think of. Our family is not a fancy stuffing family - we like the plain old recipe. Sorry to say her efforts were mostly wasted. Some of us even have to have canned cranberry sauce. Still, I think it's my favorite holiday as it's the only one the whole family gets together. I hope it's still warm enough to eat outside though doubtful. It was last year.

Since we're in the middle of moving, I did a glazed spiral ham I found buried in the freezer (I dare not think from what year...but I think it might have been purchased while I was still at my last job, which was well over a year ago). It was surprisingly good though for all of that. I did it with curry spiced new potatoes, Mac and cheese, green beans, and pear/blue cheese salad.

I love 'plain' bread stuffing too. We just do mirepoix and sauteed button mushrooms with lots of thyme and sometimes a bit of marjoram or sage. We also do a oatmeal stuffing in the neck, seasoned just with butter, salt and pepper. It comes out a little crumbly, but it tastes like home to me.

It's my favourite stuffing too but I'd never had it before I got married since my mom always did a rice/mushroom stuffing. Hubby used to make the stuffing with just onions, butter and bread. I added the celery and sage to the mix and replaced a whole lot of the butter with chicken broth.

As a non-meat-eater, stuffing doesn't hold much appeal for me.

The last time I went somewhere for a "traditional" TY dinner, the host made "vegetarian" stuffing especially for me, which made me obligated to eat it. Except ... she forgot to cook it!

I have no idea what's happening for us this Turkey Day, so won't make any plans. If it's just us, I'll probably do some twists on the traditional but if we have family it will be pretty standard. I just hope if it's a family affair that they come here so the poor turkey has a chance. Not that my mom is a bad cook, it's just that she really makes sure the food is safe....

As usual, I will be going to a friend's house and taking two pies and a loaf of bread (no knead). Don't know what pies, but I know I always have to bring the CI Lemon Meringue.
