jeanf wrote: lol JB. Dave- if you read the replies in sequence it kind of seemed like Becca dips each grain of rice into water, etc. rather than tortillas, which is (hopefully) what she meant. Please, no one try rice this way and tell me how great it is...cause I'm not going there. So now you're worried that somebody will try this with rice, and tell you "It's really not that much work...try it, you'll like it!"? Even I'm not that obsessed with rice.

I totally bought that it was for rice. You have read the poached egg thread, haven't you?

The rice sounds really good. I will make some for myself next time my hubby the supertaster is out of town. It would be good with all kinds of things.

It was a Cookaholic feast last night, thanks guys! The Hemingway's were fantastic (and may have led to what followed), my friend Kara made a fantastic chorizo and cheese tart and shrimp ceviche, the soup was very good, Tim's carnitas, the tortilla process, the salad (I winged it and made it with oranges, avocados, red onions, olive oil, some habenero/balsamic reduction, toasted seeds and grated goat cheese. Kara also made margarita sorbet and churros with chocolate dipping sauce for dessert. And she brought some tequila.
I, on the other hand, had a bull in the china shop kind of evening. I put the soup on too high and it boiled over into my silverware drawer. The I put a tray on the table, but not all the way on the table and I almost caught it but not before spilling a bunch of water and shattering 2 water glasses. After dinner I put the dish I used for salad (luckily metal) on top of a frying pan and it slid off and splattered olive oil, orange juice and habenaro/ balsamic reduction all over the kitchen. Ugh.

Mary, Glad to hear the food was good, but sorry to hear about your misfortunes. I hope you at least had enough tequila to numb the effect of those problems...or was it the tequila that was causing the problems? All we can do is laugh about these things.

It was pretty funny. Less funny as I was scraping away the remains from my kitchen. We ate out tonight. Best dessert, chestnut paste in cream in gingerbread Mille feuille served with mulled wine sorbet and little cubes of pears poached in wine.
