I got a box of salted caramel brownie mix and a couple of nice covered casserole dishes that came with a buffet rack. The buffet rack has holders for tealights. I expect it will come in handy one of these days. I expect the brownie mix will be pretty safe in the cupboard until my next period.

Becca -- I have trio of linen skirts that have been in heavy wardrobe rotation for 10+ years and they are only now starting to wear out. If those sheets are comfy, I may have to consider them.

Oh, I also got a twee tea towel/potholder set and a box of Good'n'Plenties.

The kids bought me a new food mill, CIA Professional Chef Ninth Edition and renewal to Fine Cooking. My wife bought me a walking tour through Chinatown in Boston. I did the North End walking tour and it was awesome. The same company now does one through Chinatown.

I sleep on linen sheets, and wouldn't have it any other way. They are so comfortable, and only get softer over time.

No presents this year, but I did get to spend the holidays with Amy, and we cooked up a storm. I also got to play with her vegetable sheeter, fondle the Modernist Cuisine 6 volume set (plus a bunch of other cookbooks), and see some beautiful mountain views. I ordered the Sansaire sous vide system, but it will be a birthday present since it doesn't ship until January.

Darcie completely downplays how hard she worked. We had three events in five days, and they were not uncomplicated.

I don't think the last week would have turned out nearly as well as it did, if she hadn't come to be my Sous. (And, every event went flawlessly, and my clients were thrilled.)

She put up with my stress, worked literally from dawn to well after dusk, and just was basically a wonderful addition to our home for the holidays.

Despite things like both of my scales failing (one because of dead batteries) on a morning when it was imperative we have at least ONE working scale, not being able to find ingredients critical to some dishes, (Darcie can name a few more, I'm sure) we persevered and made it all work. That, and she was willing to go chasing after Duffy (one of our dogs) when he decided to play "catch me if you can."

Now, Darcie has to come back for a visit when she's not a slave to my kitchen, so we can go and have some non-cooking fun.

I received a new can opener, which I was thrilled about, and, follow the jump here, a Ruger .22 semi automatic pistol.

I grew up shooting tin cans but that seems beyond the pale.............
