We've gotten 4 invitations but we'll most likely stay home, just the 2 of us, this year. After the grueling road trips these past few months I look forward to some down time. I'll do our standard, traditional TG and I can always trust DH to be very appreciative

I am cooking for Thanksgiving this year. There will be 5 maybe 6. My nephew, his wife and two children, my sister (maybe) and myself. Very small turkey, mashed and gravy, dressing, CI's green bean casserole, Waldorf salad and a pumkin pie. And maybe a loaf of bread.

Quote: fire up the grill. Sorry for the misunderstanding -- I don't grill it for T-Giving, I do it in a casserole in the oven, but it is good during the summer in an aluminum packet.

All,
After a lot of discussion and phone calls to fish markets, we've settled on:
Portuguese Salad Fuzzy-made sourdough bread Cioppino Pumpkin-cheesecake bread pudding
Yeah, a modest menu, but we're going to be in a rented house, and I don't want to get ambitious.

I think there will be about 30 of us this year. I'm cooking the turkey, mashed pot, gravy and dressing. Probably the sweet potatoes and rutabega, too. I saw a new recipe for creamed onions I'd like to try if only I could remember where I saw it. Wednesday my daughter and granddaughter will come over to bake rolls and pies and do some prep work for the big day, set the tables, etc.
It's a lot of work but I love this holiday. It's about the only time the whole family gets together any more.

I just took Edna's sweet potatoes out of the oven and took one (and then another) tiny spoonful from the side... fantastic, thanks for the tip. I couldn't bring myself to put in the whole amount of the sugars but it is still sweet enough. I also sprinkled a tiny bit of fleur de sel over the top.
I need to shower and pack the car and then we are off.

Home again, took the Volvo though as we had to drop the dog on the way. I do need to do a road trip in it though.
The sweet potatoes were a big hit so thank you again (and several people said "you could eat these for dessert"). All the food was fantastic. One friend made a 3 cheese 3 onion casserole that was to die for and there was a also a frozen pumpkin pie with a caramel sauce that was inspirational. The other fare was traditional and very, very good.
