Now that's just rude-kid's hockey is an entirely voluntary activity, it must be possible to skip this specific day in the schedule. I can understand stores being open, if the staff are willing to come in. Some things do need to be done, even on holidays, like running the ER (for our agility challenged friends). But athletics? Really?!m

I tried the NY Times Fruit Gallette recipe, which was very tasty but had a few lessons learned. I used a mix of sweet cherries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. *First, I mixed the fruit, sugar and cornstarch last night, which made it way too wet. I should have not done that and won't try to do that step ahead next time. *Second, the crust as written was too wet for Florida. I chilled it overnight but in the time it took me to roll it out, it got very wet and stuck to the parchment. The result is a less than pretty tart. It was even less pretty since I was working with warm sticky pastry and against the running away syrup from the macerated berries. All in all, it is a simple recipe and went over well. I need to find a better crust for it, but it is so easy that it will definitely be made again. --Lisa

Lisa,
If it's any consolation, 3/4 of my Moroccan cigars exploded.

Becky - rep (travelling) team - competitive level plus not a holiday here plus hubby is the coach. The only game they will skip is his confirmation day.
Pie was good. Apparently so was the quiche since hubby took the leftovers for lunch and left me none!
Mom's turkey was the driest it's ever been so thank goodness for gravy. Company was outstanding.
